There is a coyote wildlife situation near Taft 7-12 and Taft Elementary Schools. A coyote approached two students today in the Pit/baseball area who were passing through there at lunchtime. We made an announcement to students before dismissal today to stay out of the entire pit/baseball field area. Our School Resource Officer is stationed by the entrance to the Pit this afternoon to prevent students from walking in that area when school is out.

This is a serious situation and we are concerned for the safety of our students. Students should not walk through the baseball pit under any circumstances until further notice. This includes going to and from school, at lunchtime and at all other times. Please reinforce to your student the importance of this message.

The District is working closely with the personnel from the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife who are working to remove the coyotes from the area. Report encounters with coyotes immediately to the ODFW Newport office (541) 867-4741 or Oregon State Police dispatch (800) 452-7888. Call 911 in an emergency. We will keep you updated as more information is available.

Hay una situacion de coyote salvaje cerca de las escuelas Taft 7-12 y Taft Elementary. Un coyote se acercó a dos estudiantes hoy en el área de Pit/baseball que pasaban por allí a la hora del almuerzo. Hicimos un anuncio a los estudiantes antes de la salida de hoy a permanecer fuera de toda la zona pit / campo de béisbol. Nuestro Oficial de Recursos Escolares está estacionado en la entrada del Foso esta tarde para evitar que los estudiantes caminen en esa área cuando la escuela está fuera.
